Left my mark
scribbled in a corner of the school
light pen scratches
likely overlooked
Left my mark
drew on pebbles on the beach
with an ash-tipped twig
before throwing them to the sea
Will anyone ever see those faded faces,
empty stares from beneath cold waters
Left my mark
carved my name into driftwood
as crabs scurried about
a mad flurry
skittering across sand
I left my mark
over there
on the wall where the earth meets the sea
side of a cliff
from the beach
I wrote wise words
from my heart
what did I write?
Left name as well
left words against the wars we wage
let them all wash away
next to the faded letters
of friends,
visitors,
lovers,
jokers
We left our mark
I found myself doing this as a kid. I have a lot of memories, places I've been where I left something to indicate I was there. Maybe a message in a bottle, a drawing of ash, or an indentation of a word in the rocks. We die, we are forgotten. Need to leave some indication. A quickie, like it or hate it. I just write to get it out of my system. Good way to remember things I forgot.
